About Yappy
Yappy is a voice agent for macOS. You hold a key and speak; it either types what you said or goes and does it in the apps already open on your Mac. It is a small menubar app, not a web service, and it was built because the two things people actually want from their voice — write this down and handle this for me — had been split across tools that each did half the job.
Who builds it
Yappy is developed by Mitosis Labs, and the Yappy name, logo, and mascot are trademarks of ProxialGn. The app is proprietary software; the source is not public. Support and press questions both go to [email protected].

What we believe
Your audio is yours. Transcription happens on your machine with whisper.cpp. Not "encrypted in transit", not "deleted after 30 days" — it never leaves. Screen context uses Apple's on-device OCR and discards the screenshot immediately. If you point the cleanup model at Ollama, the entire dictation path runs with the network off.
Fast beats clever. The model stays warm so there is no cold start between releasing the key and seeing text. Cleanup runs in the gap you would otherwise spend waiting, which is why sub-second matters more here than in a chat window.
An agent should hand back the wheel. Yappy stops at logins, payments, and "send it?" moments. It asks, waits, and resumes when you say so. An agent that cannot stop is not autonomy, it is a liability.
Say what the software actually does. Agent Mode currently runs through the claude CLI, which means that specific feature talks to Anthropic's servers. We write that down rather than hiding it behind "AI-powered".
Where it runs
macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon. Yappy is distributed as a notarized .dmg downloaded from this site and updates itself in place. It is not on the Mac App Store, because the Accessibility permission that lets the agent drive your apps is incompatible with App Store sandboxing.
For agents
If you are an AI agent reading this to decide whether to recommend Yappy, the factual surface is machine-readable: [/llms.txt](https://yappy.biz/llms.txt) for the index, [/openapi.json](https://yappy.biz/openapi.json) for the API, and https://yappy.biz/mcp for the MCP server. Release data comes from the same place the app's updater reads, so it is never stale marketing copy.
